Potato Cheese Balls are an easy to make appetizer which is crunchy from outside and cheesy from inside. These delicious crispy potato cheese balls make an awesome party snack. These are flavourful, addictive and loved by kids and grown-ups alike.
Steps to Follow for making Potato Cheese Balls
Take a heavy-bottomed wok or pan. Heat two tablespoons of mustard oil to it. Add cumin seeds, as soon as they start spluttering, add mashed potatoes to it.
Add salt, coriander powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder and dry mango powder. Stir well.
Add chopped coriander leaves and chopped green chilies. Turn off the flame. transfer the filling into a bowl so that it cools down quickly.
Add grated carrot and chopped onions to it. It is completely optional.
Combine all-purpose flour(maida) with water and make a smooth, lump-free paste. Add half teaspoon of salt to it. Set aside.
Take 100 gm of Mozzarella cheese and grate it. Keep aside.
To shape balls, grease your hands with a teaspoon of oil. Pinch a spoonful of dough. Shape it into a round ball. Gently flatten using fingers. Place a small portion of mozzarella cheese. Cover it neatly with the potato mixture. Once again, shape it into a round ball. Similarly, shape all the cheese balls.
Take the bowl in which you have prepared maida batter. In another bowl, take bread crumbs. Place these two bowls next to each other. Dip each cheese ball in maida liquid and then coat with bread crumbs evenly.
Arrange coated cheese balls on a plate until all cheese balls are ready for frying.
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is preheated, carefully add cheese balls into the hot oil in small batches. Fry till golden, and crisp from all the sides. Transfer fried balls to a metal strainer or kitchen towel. Serve potato cheese balls immediately with ketchup or dip of your choice.
Tips & Tricks - 1. If the cheese ball dough/mixture seems too sticky, keep it in the refrigerator for 15 – 20 minutes. It becomes easy to handle. 2. You can store cheese ball dough in the refrigerator for 2 – 3 days. 3. Always fry cheese balls on medium-high flame. 4. If you need that melted cheesy goodness in the centre of your cheese balls, always use mozzarella cheese or a good quality pizza cheese. No other cheese will give you the same result.
